The Most Human Human

The Most Human Human Book Review

How can you tell you are a person? Most definitely not by just saying, “I’m a person”. But how can you prove it? Against a machine that is. In his title The Most Human Human, Brian Christian relates his participation in the Turing test.

In this test a person faces the challenge of proving he/she is human by engaging in simple written conversation with a panel of judges who ask questions to both the person and the computer program. If the judges that witness the conversation can’t tell the person from the “machine”, the computer program wins.

The test was created after 1950 Alan Turing’s question about whether computers are capable of thinking. Following Brian Christian’s experience on the test, the title offers implications on what the race against computer means for human life. However, I won’t share who wins in the end.
